Do you talk to yourself?
Quite a vague question. Right??
It seems to be a vague question to most of us. But, it
actually has a deep meaning.
How many of you
are 100% sure that you know yourself completely inside-out?
If you know yourself completely, then answer the following
questions:
- Do you know why you often get irritated or frustrated on little things that actually have no importance in your life?
- Why a situation or problem which seems to be very big get solved very easily or by taking some small steps?
- Why you get angry with whom you loved the most and easily melt when they try to persuade you?
Why am I behaving like this?
Sometimes, we behave very badly in a situation while at
other times; we handle the same situation very calmly and effectively.
It all depends
on our mood.
When we have a calm and relaxed mood, we manage any type of
situation (worst to the worst situation), in a very logical and respectful manner.
However, if our mood is not good, we behave rudely, rashly,
and aggressively in the same situation.
We don’t know whether our mood will be good or bad when we
are in the same situation the next time.
If we don’t know how we will behave in a specific
situation, then how can we say that we know ourselves completely?
Do you understand your Reactions or Emotions completely?
Sometimes, we do certain things; but, we don’t know why we
are doing it.
For example:
Sometimes, we feel low and upset and when someone asks, “Why are you upset?” We do not have the answer to this question.
Similarly, at times, we are very happy, energetic, and
lively; but, we don’t know the reason behind it.
So, do we really know ourselves?
How to know – Who am I?
To understand yourself, you need to analyze our thoughts.
You need to talk to yourself and get the answers to the
following questions:
- How you behave in a particular situation?
- Why you behave in a particular manner?
- What are the factors that boost your mood and make you happy?
- What are the factors that can dampen your mood and make you sad?
After getting the answers to the above questions, you know what
can make you happy and what can make you sad.
You know the things that trigger you to behave in a
particular manner. You can control these triggers and train your mind not to
get influenced by them.
Once you are able to control your triggers, you can handle any situation effectively and will save yourself from all the negative consequences of your bad mood or behavior.

This is a nice initial post. You put a lot of your personality into it. As for the topic, I agree that self-reflection is valuable. "To thine own self be true," wrote Shakespeare, but as you pointed out, you can only have that truth if you truly know yourself. There is what you think you want or need, and there is what you know you want or need. The difference between the two is found in understanding oneself.
